Roy Awarded Conn Smythe

Colorado Defeats Devils in Game 7 Thriller

In a thrilling conclusion to the 2001 NHL Stanley Cup Final, the Colorado Avalanche defeated the New Jersey Devils in seven games to capture their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. Colorado's Patrick Roy was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs.

The Avalanche and Devils traded blows throughout the series, with each team winning two games at home. Colorado ultimately prevailed in Game 7, thanks to a 3-1 victory on Saturday, June 9, 2001. The Avalanche took an early lead in the game and never looked back, with goals from Alex Tanguay, Joe Sakic, and Ville Nieminen.

Roy was a force in net for the Avalanche throughout the playoffs, posting a 16-8 record with a 1.78 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage. He was particularly impressive in Game 7, stopping 33 of 34 shots.

The Avalanche's victory was a fitting end to a season that saw them finish with the best record in the NHL. They also avenged their loss to the Devils in the 2000 Stanley Cup Final.
