Show of Solidarity and Fundraising Initiative

Team of 10 to Cycle 670km in Aid of Local Charities

A group of ten firefighters from Donegal, Ireland, have embarked on an ambitious cross-Ireland cycle alongside their comrades from New York City.

The 670km journey, which began on August 22nd, aims to raise funds for local charities and foster solidarity between the two fire departments.

Led by Donegal Chief Fire Officer, Joseph McLaughlin, the team will cycle through seven counties over six days, culminating in Dublin on August 27th.

Fundraising for Worthy Causes

  • The Donegal firefighters are raising funds for the Donegal Hospice and the North West Cancer Centre.
  • Their New York counterparts are supporting the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, which aids families of fallen first responders.

Strengthening International Bonds

The cycle is not only a fundraising endeavor but also a symbol of the strong bonds between the Donegal and New York fire departments.

The two departments have a long history of collaboration and mutual support, particularly in the aftermath of major incidents.

Public Support and Encouragement

The firefighters have received overwhelming support from the public, with many cheering them on along the route.

The Donegal County Council has also provided logistical support, ensuring the safe passage of the cyclists.
